Thank you for taking the time to look at my website.
I am a trauma-informed yoga teacher, with a specific interest in the effects yoga can have on mental health and wellbeing. I teach both online and in the privacy and comfort of your home: Potters Bar, Barnet, Hadley Wood, Cockfosters, Cuffley, Stevenage, throughout Hertfordshire, North London and beyond.
Having seen first hand the positive impact regular practice can have on issues such as stress, anxiety, depression and PTSD, I channel my teaching toward those who will benefit most from a steady, gentle, creative approach to yoga, including but not limited to anyone who has suffered trauma or similar mental health issues, those working in emergency services, armed forces and similar front-line responders. This valuable work continually amplifies my understanding of how best to apply yoga when managing symptoms associated with trauma, often unique to the individual.
My classes adopt a slow and steady rhythm with attentive explorations of postures and breath work, finding various ways for mind and body to reconnect. We mindfully observe how things are in the present moment and begin to nurture feelings of gratitude and trust for the positives that already exist within us (however well we have chosen to down play them over the years!).
My own journey with yoga began over ten years ago. At that time, I was living a life that masked the traumas I had suffered, including the loss of my immediate family members at a young age. My lifestyle back then was a hazardous façade as I tried to maintain adrenaline-fuelled roles in the legal and music industries. There was very little down time; the reality was that I had no idea there was even ‘off switch’. I became something of an expert at masking my emotional and physical exhaustion with detrimental lifestyle choices, despite knowing deep down that something wasn’t right.
Then, quite out of the blue, I found yoga. Or, perhaps it’s more accurate to say, yoga found me.
Initially impressed with how the practice maintained physical strength, tone and suppleness, thankfully it didn’t take long for me to experience deeper, more profound emotional and mental benefits that seemed to outweigh those physical plus points. Many years later, I still choose to practice daily and I owe this commitment to the fact that I felt the incredible rewards from learning how to wind down, to release and to start a process of internal healing and recovery. That journey is ongoing and I remain committed to a regular practice which nourishes me in unique ways each and every day.
Over the years I have explored many different styles of yoga: Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin and Restorative, to name a few and I trained at Harmony Yoga School in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
