Helen Cooper

Yoga Instructor

You are just one yoga session away from a good mood.

Hi there,
I’m Helen.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my website.

Why yoga?

If yoga is something you have been considering, or have previously delved into, I would love to find out how my training, experience and passion for this ancient healing art can help you gain the most from a regular practice.

My own journey with it began over ten years ago.  At that time, I was living a life that masked the traumas I had suffered, including the loss of my immediate family members at a young age.  Lifestyle back then was a hazardous façade as I tried to maintain adrenaline-fuelled roles in both legal and music industries.  There was very little ‘down time’; the reality was that I had no idea there was even ‘off switch’.  I became a true expert at masking my emotional and physical exhaustion with detrimental lifestyle choices and I knew deep down inside that something wasn’t right.

Quite out of the blue, I found yoga.  Or, perhaps it’s more accurate to say, yoga found me.

Initially impressed with how the practice maintained physical strength, tone and suppleness, thankfully it didn’t take long for me to experience deeper, more profound emotional and psychological benefits that seemed to outweigh those physical plus points.  Many years later, I still choose to practice daily and I owe this commitment to the fact that felt the incredible rewards from learning how to wind down, to release and to start a process of internal healing and recovery.  That journey is ongoing and I remain committed to a regular practice which nourishes me in unique ways each and every day.

Over the years I have explored many different styles of yoga: Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin and Restorative, to name a few.  I then chose to train as teacher at Harmony Yoga School in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and my fascination and gratitude for yoga began to permeate toward those I chose to work with day to day.

I currently specialise in Trauma-Sensitive yoga, having seen first hand the positive impact that regular practice has on mental health, including stress, anxiety, depression and PTSD.  Working closely with the emergency services and armed forces has also enhanced my understanding of how effective the right type of yoga can be when managing symptoms associated with varying degrees of trauma.

My classes adopt a slow and steady rhythm with attentive explorations of postures and breath work, finding various ways for mind and body to reconnect. We mindfully observe how things are in the present-moment and begin to nourish feelings of gratitude and trust for the positives that do already exist within us (however well we have chosen to down play them over the years!).

I really hope you enjoy taking a look around my website.  Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss private one to one yoga, small group classes or online options.   I would love to share my skills, experience and passion for yoga with you.

Helen has clear instruction, steady pacing and grounded intuition. I find her energy and enthusiasm for moving sequences perfectly balanced with calmness and peace when exploring the more spiritual side of yoga.

I absolutely love Helen’s classes and would recommend her unreservedly. It always feels like so much time, thought and love has gone into their preparation and delivery. A love of yoga shared.

I always enjoy Helen’s classes. They challenge you both physically and spiritually but always leave you feeling strong and refreshed. A great teacher.

Helen's teaching always draws me in to a world of calm thoughtfulness and a desire to improve my personal wellbeing. I recommend her even to those who may think yoga may not be for them. I didn't think it was for me a year ago, now I can't get enough of it!

I have been enjoying one to one sessions with Helen for over a year and I can truly say it has been transformational. I leave each session feeling uplifted and at peace with the world. My body feels stretched and supple. I look forward to many more years of private yoga with her.

Helen includes a mixture of physical postures, guided meditation, breath work, quotes, and a wide range of class formats/flows which has held my interest for quite some time.

I would strongly recommend her to new yogis as well as those with much experience ... Thank you Helen.

Her enthusiasm for yoga is balanced with a calm, friendly nature and this unique practice has helped me slow down and alleviate body aches and stress.

I have had 1 to 1, group indoor and outdoor classes with Helen and love them all. Helen is so good at suggesting modifications or adjustments if something doesn’t feel quite right.
